When it comes to text-to-speech on the Kindle 2, this is “not a matter of an author’s copyright, it is a matter of an individual’s civil right.” It is a matter of full and equal integration into society. Jacobus tenBroek, a legal scholar, civil rights leader, and first president of the NFB, wrote a law review article entitled “The Right to Live in the World.” While the specific legal point of the article related to negligence, the theme of equality, integration, and opportunity was the same. When it comes to text-to-speech on the Kindle 2, it is an issue of full and equal integration into society. While the Kindle 2 is not specifically on the agenda of this event, there is anticipation that it will come up during one or more of the various discussion segments. - John Pare
